SPLENDID 18TH CENTURY HOUSE

IN THE YUCATAN PENINSULA

Built around 300 years ago to serve as a parish house for the adjoining church, this house was later inhabited by a local family, attached to the provincial life of the Yucatan Peninsula.

A few years ago, a couple delving into their family tree, followed the trail of their ancestors in Campeche, and walking through its colonial streets, discovered this charming Casona.

In 2021, with profound respect for the original construction, the restoration project began, in the hands of the appreciated architect Jose Manuel Martinez, who chose to endow this house with a special personality, where historical architecture could coexist with an eclectic and contemporary design.

Special elements from the original house, representative of the Spanish Colonial Yucatan Peninsula,  have been preserved and restored, such as floors, beams, doors and metal fences. The double arcade in the first bay is original from the 18th century, and the exterior arcade dates from the 1900’ s.

Intending to share this unique experience, Casa Japa opens its doors in 2023, as an intimate lodging with spaces that invite rest and connection.
